WINGATE — Wiley Robbins, 67, of Wingate died at 6 a.m. today in Home Hospital at Lafayette, where he had been admitted Saturday. Mr. Robbins had retired in 1976 as a federal rehabilitation officer for the West Central District. He had previously been in hotel management for 30 years with the Statler hotel chain of Cleveland, Ohio. He had served as a Naval commissary officer at Norfolk, Va., during World War II. He was a member of Wingate United Methodist Church, Greenlawn Cemetery Association board, Wingate American Legion Post, Crawfordsville 40 et 8 and Elks Lodge of Crawfordsville. For 20 years, Mr. Robbins was a precinct committeeman for Coal Creek Township, and he was active in the Republican Party. He was a 1930 graduate of Wingate High School and a 1934 graduate of Wabash College. On Oct. 27, 1911, he was born near Somerset, Ky., a son of Jasper M. and Mary Cheek Robbins. On Dec. 10, 1939, he was married to the former Clara Evelyn Cottrell of Wingate, who survives. Other survivors are a son, Wiley C. Robbins of Wingate, who is stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison at Indianapolis; and two brothers, A.C. Robbins of Worthington, Ohio, and J. Marion Robbins of Escondido, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil, and an infant brother. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with Rev. Homer Hunsinger officiating. Military graveside rites will be given by the Wingate American Legion. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Wingate. Friends may call after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday or after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
